Heir to a prominent family of spiritualists, Maya is Phoenix's obligatory perky sidekick during all three games. Mayoi is optimistic, excitable, friendly, curious, and a fangirl for all things Steel Samurai. Like her sister she is tenacious to a fault, and very attached to her Naruhodou-kun. Not always the brightest but loyal and outgoing.
Mayoi originally was going to be working in Chihiro's office, training to become a lawyer. But the producers thought Naruhodou had too many allies, so they asked one to be cut. That was how the writers came up with the idea for the Turnabout Sister's case, and using spirit channeling to combine two of Naruhodou's allies into one.
Maya's spiritual powers are still somewhat underdeveloped, and she has trouble calling spirits sometimes.
Mayoi has an older sister, Chihro. Her mother has been missing for 15 years, but she has an aunt, Morgan, and a cousin, Harumi. Her mother is Misty Fey.
Mayoi grew up in Kurain, training to be a spiritual medium. After the disappearance of her mother when she was two, and later because her sister left the village, she is destined to become the heir of her family. Though her sister left home they still remain in contact and are very close.
Name Origin
English: "Fey" was probably chosen as a last name because of it's connection to magic/spiritualism (as in, Morgan le Fay). Maya is pretty close to her Japanese name, Mayoi.
Japanese: The creator picked Mayoi from a list of kanji he liked. Together they mean, "True Evening," a "mysterious name that fits perfectly with the opening setting of Reversal Sisters."
