The main star of the movie. He is shown to have much kindness and courage, even though he gets scared and dishearten just as easily. Throughout the movie, it was made clear that he had a crush on Tanya and loved to draw her. Before he was taken from the island, they had a fight over if she had told her father about supply cave they saw earlier the same day his father was taken. They parted of a heartbroken note, never to see each other again. Junpei makes countless references to the galactic train that helps him understand life and death at the end of the movie when he was forced to cover his brother's illness.
