Brushbuddy is one of the characters in Witch Hat Atelier and a member of a species called the brushbuddy. Initially, Brushbuddy was living at Dadah Range, until he meets Coco doing the Consent of the Crown test. After the test, the girl and the little animal came back together to the atelier, and Brushbuddy started its new life there.
Brushbuddy is one of three siblings born to a "typical brushbuddy father and a typical brushbuddy mother" somewhere in or near the Dadah Range in the north of the Zozah Peninsula. Shortly after his tail reached its full length, he was found by Coco and brought to Qifrey's Atelier, its new home.
Brushbuddy is a seemingly average sized white brushbuddy. His tail is at full length, indicating he has reached maturity. Brushbuddy's unique feature is a patch of fur between their eyes that is slightly different from the fur on the rest of their body.
Brushbuddy doesn't have a very clear personality, but he often appears for comedic relief. As any normal brushbuddy, the little creature is attracted to magic ink, this being one of the reasons Brushbuddy likes to be near the apprentices of Qifrey's Atelier. Throughout the chapters, Brushbuddy is often seen with Richeh, so it is likely that a bond was formed between the two. Brushbuddy will become somewhat annoyed when someone pets or hugs him too much.
Brushybuddy is trying to write a journal based on the behavior of Coco and the others at the Atelier, but to little success.
In the Volume 4 bonus chapter, Brushbuddy uses the Japanese pronoun 吾輩 (wagahai)—a pompous pronoun more suited to a nobleman than a pet. This is almost certainly a reference to the famous Japanese novel, I Am A Cat.
The character's Japanese name, フデムシ (fudemushi), comes from the Japanese words for an "inkbrush" (fude) and "bug" (mushi).
